Dual Aperture High Luminosity Collider at Cornell
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe a very high luminosity electron-positron collider that operates in the 4s energy range. Trajectories intersect with a small horizontal crossing angle so that closely spaced bunches collide only at the interaction point. An electrostatic deflector steers the counter-rotating beams into side-by-side vacuum chambers that share a common dipole guide field. The beams also share superconducting RF accelerating cavities. Independent focusing and chromaticity correction is provided by dual aperture superconducting quadrupoles and sextupoles. The machine is installed above the synchrotron injector in the CESR tunnel. The existing storage ring can remain for service as an accumulator or dedicated synchrotron light source. With 3A/beam in 180 bunches, v = 7mm, beam-beam tune shift parameter = 0:06 and beam energy of 5.3GeV, we anticipate luminosity of 3 1034cm 2s 1.

متن کامل1 . 1 Colliding Beams at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring CESR
The electron-positron collider CESR was constructed as an upgrade to the Cornell Electron Synchrotron in the late 1970’s, originally designed to operate at 16 GeV center of mass with a maximum luminosity of 1x10 cm-sec. [1] The parameter list specified a single 100 mA (1.5x10 e-) bunch in each beam and beam-beam parameters of 0.06 in each plane. The fortuitous discovery of the Upsilon family of...
متن کاملBeam Instabilities in Very Large Hadron Collider
The Very Large Hadron Collider (VLHC) is a superconducting proton-proton collider with approximately 100 TeV cm and approximately 10 s−1cm−2 luminosity [1]. Currently, beam dynamics in this future accelerator is the subject of intensive studies within the framework of the US-wide VLHC R&D program. This presentation summarizes recent developments in the field. Besides general discussion on relev...
متن کاملTriggering at High Luminosity Colliders
This article discusses the techniques used to select online promising events at high energy and high luminosity colliders. After a brief introduction, explaining some general aspects of triggering, the more specific implementation options for well established machines like the Tevatron and Large Hadron Collider are presented. An outlook on what difficulties need to be met is given when designin...
متن کاملLong-Range Beam–Beam Compensation Using Wires
At the LHC, the effect of unavoidable long-range beam–beam collisions reduces the dynamic aperture, calling for a minimum crossing angle. A wire compensator partially cancels the effect of the long-range collisions, and may allow operation with reduced crossing angle or decreased beta function at the interaction point, thereby increasing the (virtual) peak luminosity. In this chapter, we descri...
